Nancy Haynes - Choir Pianist
The music ministry at Faith Temple has a long history of excellence. With a contemporary style, the music
at Faith Temple has traditionally been known as one of the strongest music programs in the east Alabama area. There are numerous outstanding
singers and musicians who compose a vibrant ministry of worship and praise.
The choir is the longest running tradition at Faith Temple.
Since it’s beginning in 1960 the choir has been a vital part of the music ministry. Nancy Haynes was the church pianist and also became
the choir director from 1965 until 1984. Nancy propelled the choir to new heights by teaching the elements of reading music and the
importance of breath control and diction. She nurtured vocalists to achieve their very best. James Blair became the choir director,
following Nancy Haynes, in 1968 and held the position until June, of 2011. Under his leadership the choir continued its outstanding
performance and performed many special and wonderful musicals. James continued the practice of teaching the choir members
to read music and stressing the importance of diction and breath control.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s, Pastor Howard Stark encouraged
musicians, both young and old, to pick up their instruments and play for the glory of God.

Music Ministry
"Sing Unto the Lord, a new song."
For several years the musicians played by ear. The instruments included piano, organ, accordions, brass, woodwinds, and percussion.
The lively worship services were invigorated by the musicians.
Every service included a “special”, which might range from a
six year old just learning to play the piano to an extraordinary piano solo by Sandra Stark. Every person with any kind of musical
talent was encouraged to give that talent to God and let Him multiply it.
The worship ministries remain strong. With seven designated
worship leaders, all with different leadership styles, there is something for everyone. The choir remains vibrant with members exhibiting
unwavering devotion. Children’s choirs are integrated into special holiday programs, and the dance ministry comes to life under the
direction of Kristi Moncrief from time to time.
The future of the music ministry at Faith Temple is bright. With the prophetic promise
that Faith Temple will be known as a conservatory of music, only God knows what lies ahead. Whatever the future holds, it will be
preceded by decades of faithful servants giving their talents to develop a legacy of excellence.
